Basic professional studies professional nurse/technician

Professional title: professional nurse/technician

Basic professional studies of nursing are organized in 2475 hours (6 semesters of theoretical, practical teaching, independent student work, practice in health care institutions and preparation of graduation paper (in accordance with the Directive 2005/36/EK of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union, September 7, 2005). The curriculum should provide students with the knowledge, practical skills and professional behavior necessary for their practice as professional nurses.

AIMS OF THE STUDY PROGRAM

To educate professional nurses/technicians in the field of health care so they could effectively work in the care for patients;

Provision of general education, in addition to up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing;

bullet

To provide permanent education of professional nurses via most up-to-date education and mentor work;

bullet

To improve communication skills; team work; resolving of organizational problems; use of IT; research work.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

bullet

Application of theoretical principles and practical skills in all aspects of health care, including health promotion and prevention of intrahospital infections;

bullet

In addition to general health care, a nurse should master her specially selected field of interest;

bullet

Problem-solving skills; team work in diagnosis and treatment;

bullet

To lead health care teams;

bullet

To organize health care, assign tasks to others, make working schedules and run medical documentation;

bullet

To be involved in knowledge-transfer and educate other nurses and associates;

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Secondary, IV years' medical school (with at least 100 hours of patient care);

bullet

Admission exam in anatomy and physiology (carrying maximally 60 points, which together with high school success could maximally give 100 points);

KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT AND GRADES

Only the student who fulfills all the planned pre-exam requirements can take the exam. Student workload is constantly monitored and has to be expressed in points. After the fulfillment of all pre-exam requirements and after passing the exam a student can earn the maximum of 100 points. Out of the total number of points, at least 30 and maximally 70 points are planned to be earned through the fulfillment of pre-exam requirements (activities; knowledge check-ups during the semester). The number of points to be earned per a school year is defined individually per each course.

Repeated knowledge check-ups are performed regularly throughout the semester (school year), and final grade is established after exam. These check-up take the form of colloquia, seminars, tests etc.

In cases of combined-type exams (written, practical, oral), those already passed parts of the exam are acknowledged in the future exam terms for pre-clinical courses and only the written part for clinical courses till the end of the school year in question.

Exam colloquium is a form of knowledge assessment with detailed evaluation of knowledge of a large portion of the course. Up to two colloquia can be organized per semester. A successfully taken colloquium is recognized till the successful completion of the exam, if in the same school year. The portion of the course assessed at exam colloquium is not evaluated again at the exam.

If an exam is both written and oral, the result at the written part makes up at least 50% of the final grade.

If an exam is written, practical, and oral, the result at the written part makes up at least 20% of the final grade.

In the point structure for core courses, the final exam could account for 50% at the most of the total number of points.

bullet

In the point structure for other courses, the final exam could account for 30-40% at the most of the total number of points.

Student accomplishment is expressed by grades as follows:

10 - extraordinary

bullet

9 - excellent

bullet

8 - very good

bullet

7 - good

bullet

6 - sufficient

bullet

5 - exam failure

If a student fails his exam (earns less than 55 points), the grade 5 is entered into the exam records and exam application of that student.

"The value" of each course from the program is expressed by way of the ECTS credits, and the extent of the studies is the sum of ECTS credits collected during the studies. The value of 60 ECTS credits expresses the average total engagement of a student for a workload of 40 hours a week during one school year.

LITERATURE

Relevant literature is adapted to the study programs, and for certain courses with the extent of the studies expressed in ECTS credits.
