Professional title: PROFESSIONAL SANITARY AND ECOLOGICAL ENGINEER - SPECIALIST

Rapidly changing societies, health care systems and institutions within, require professionals with thorough understanding of health provision processes and organizational processes in health care, as well as the knowledge and skills to immediately adopt technical and technologic innovations. There is also the pressing need for continued, life-long education, development of one's own expertise, and enrichment of professional knowledge with education in the fields of ethics, psychology, computer science.

STUDY PROGRAM PURPOSE

The structure of the program provides the knowledge, know-how, and skills which could make the students understand and successfully intervene in the field of public health. During the studies, the competences should progressively grow towards more complex knowledge and skills.

Study program purposes:

bullet

Adjustment of education with the needs of a society and its health care system in accordance with the adopted HR strategies;

bullet

Adjustment of the competence levels to those in the EU, so that our graduates could compete on equal terms on the EU labor market;

bullet

Introduction of quality control system in our education;

bullet

Provision of standardized assessment of knowledge, skills and professional competences;

bullet

Improvement of cost-effectiveness of education; and

bullet

To prepare students for independent life-long learning as the fundamental philosophy of life and right of modern men.

STUDY PROGRAM AIMS

Creation and execution of professional public health programs,

bullet

Critical evaluation of professional practice,

bullet

Execution of complex public health tasks.

Graduated specialists should:

bullet

Possess knowledge in the fields of biologic, medical, humanistic and other sciences,

bullet

Master practical skills, adopt attitudes and professional behavior and recognize the needs for one's own career development,

bullet

Build up the system of values, respecting the rights and needs of others.

bullet

Work in interdisciplinary teams; ability to work independently, without surveillance.

ACQUISITION OF SKILLS

bullet

Selection of information which would enable problem detection, with planning and execution of prevention measures, involvement in educational prevention measures, identification of the needs of individuals and community;

bullet

Understanding of numerous factors which contribute to the upkeeping and improvement of public health;

bullet

Life-long learning and support others in their education;

bullet

Independent execution of some public health activities;

bullet

Development of management skills, leadership and monitoring;

bullet

Contribution to public health teams;

bullet

Public health research.

RELATIONSHIP WITH PATIENTS AND COLLEAGUES

Graduated students will demonstrate the following:

Ability to communicate in an appropriate way with individuals and groups;

bullet

Promotion of professional attitudes and behaviors with patients and colleagues, without lingual, cultural, racial, gender and socioeconomic prejudices;

bullet

Acts in accordance with patient confidentiality principles;

bullet

Demonstrates respect for her colleagues and superiors;

bullet

Awareness of the importance of team work and leadership.
