PROFESSIONAL INSTRUMENT NURSE/TECHNICIAN - SPECIALIST

Professional title: Professional instrument nurse/technician - specialist

The need for this profession is expressed in all larger institutions with the development of new surgical techniques and application of new technologies.

The study program is organized in two semesters of theoretical and practical teaching, independent student work, practice in health care institutions and graduation paper (in accordance with the Directive 2005/36/EK of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union, September 7, 2005).

STUDY PROGRAM PURPOSE

The program is based on:

The Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia;

bullet

Requirements of the society for highly educated medical staff able to permanently adopt and apply new achievements in medical disciplines;

bullet

Nurses' needs for personal and professional development;

bullet

WHO and ICN guidelines;

bullet

Bologna Declaration;

bullet

Strategy of development of the Faculty of Medicine in Nis

Study program purposes:

bullet

Adjustment of education with the needs of a society and its health care system in accordance with the adopted HR strategies;

bullet

Adjustment of the competence levels to those in the EU, so that our graduates could compete on equal terms on the EU labor market;

bullet

Introduction of quality control system in our education;

bullet

Provision of standardized assessment of knowledge, skills and professional competences;

bullet

Improvement of cost-effectiveness of education; and

bullet

To prepare students for independent life-long learning as the fundamental philosophy of life and right of modern men.

STUDY PROGRAM AIMS

Graduated specialists should:

Possess knowledge in the fields of biologic, medical, humanistic and other sciences,

bullet

Master practical skills, adopt attitudes and professional behavior and recognize the needs for one's own career development,

bullet

Build up the system of values, respecting the rights and needs of others.

bullet

Work in interdisciplinary teams; ability to work independently, without surveillance.

COMPETENCES

bullet

Professional leadership of a surgery ward, from patient preparation, via support during surgery, adequate bandaging and supportive care after surgery;

bullet

Ability to work as a surgical team member;

bullet

Ability to perform health education tasks;

bullet

Ability to lead the team of instrument nurses;

bullet

Ability to perform surveillance tasks;

bullet

Provides required resources;

bullet

Research activities and education of instrument nurses.

STUDY PROGRAM OUTCOMES

bullet

Education for independent work in various surgical disciplines (abdominal surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatric surgery, chest surgery, gynecology, ENT surgery, eye surgery);

bullet

Ability to organize the work of surgery ward;

bullet

Ability to educate others (students at professional studies and in secondary medical schools);

bullet

Recognition of various conditions and adequate support of surgical patients.

RELATIONSHIP WITH PATIENTS AND COLLEAGUES

Graduated students will demonstrate the following:

Ability to communicate in an appropriate way with individuals and groups;

bullet

Promotion of professional attitudes and behaviors with patients and colleagues, without lingual, cultural, racial, gender and socioeconomic prejudices;

bullet

Acts in accordance with patient confidentiality principles;

bullet

Demonstrates respect for her colleagues and superiors;

bullet

Awareness of the importance of team work and leadership.
