Specialist professional studies professional nurse/technician - Specialist

Professional title: professional nurse/technician- SPECIALIST

The second level of professional studies for the professional title professional nurse/technician - specialist are organized in 915 hours (two semesters of theory and practice, independent student work, practice in health care institutions and graduation paper (in accordance with the Directive 2005/36/EK of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union, September 7, 2005). The curriculum should provide students with the knowledge, practical skills and professional behavior necessary for their practice as professional nurses/technicians - specialists.

The needs for the establishment of such a program may be formulated as follows:

Personal and career development of nurses;

bullet

Recommendations of the WHO and ICN;

bullet

Bologna Declaration stipulations;

bullet

Development strategy of the Faculty

The studies last one school year (two semesters), with 60 ECTS credits. The first semester consists of theoretical instruction and the second consists of practice and preparation of graduation paper. The preparation of graduation paper is mentor-guided.

Academic-educational courses make up 15% of the total ECTS credits, scientific-professional 25% and practical-professional 60%. The percentage of electives is 25%.

The program integrates theoretical and practical teaching in the forms of practice, seminars, video-presentations, demonstrations in the educational bases of the Faculty (institutes, clinics..). The teaching staff consists of highly professional teachers with huge clinical and pedagogical experience. The program is devised to develop in students the need for continual personal and professional development.

Practical instruction takes place in intensive care units in various clinics, where highly specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed, but also in public health departments, enabling students to have practice in diverse fields of medicine, including health resources management.

AIMS OF THE STUDY PROGRAM

The program aims to offer highly specific specialist education to the nurses/technicians. In addition to traditional medical courses, the program focuses also on the organization and management of health care resources and methods of research in the field of nursing, so that the actual process of patient health care could be improved.

Fundamental aim of the program is to offer evidence-based knowledge and practice in top health care institutions. The students will be able to:

Create and execute professional programs in health care;

bullet

Critically evaluate professional practice, with prospects of its further humanization;

bullet

Execution of highly specialized tasks in health care.

A professional nurse - specialist should:

bullet

Possess appropriate knowledge of biology, medical, humanistic and other sciences;

bullet

Master clinical skills, adopt attitudes and behavior in order to adequately perform the assigned tasks, to protect professional interests and recognize the needs, strong and weak points in its own career development;

bullet

Build the system of values in view of the ethical dimensions of the profession, to respect the rights and needs of its patients, to participate actively in multidisciplinary teams and execute professional assignments.

Adequate organization of nursing services, with following elements:

Research in the function of practice and profession development;

Introduction of appropriate medical documentation, with the elements of quality assessment and effectiveness of nursing service;

Appropriate, highly professional interpersonal relationships;

Development of professionalism, with respect of ethical principles;

bullet

Creation and development of the practice of nursing in accordance with the health care system requirements;

ACQUISITION OF SKILLS

Graduates will be able to:

Resolve professional problems, partcipate in the team-work with other professions in the process of health care;

bullet

Execute health care tasks, including health promotion, disease prevention and intervention in urgent cases in health care institutions and in community;

bullet

Execute health education tasks (with assessment of needs);

bullet

Partcipate on equal terms with others in health care demonstrating the ability for team work;

bullet

Organizes nursing in various institutions;

bullet

Leads nursing teams in public health activities;

bullet

Performs surveillance of nursing staff;

bullet

Provides the necessary nursing resources;

bullet

Takes part in research activities and education.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH PATIENTS AND COLLEAGUES

Graduated students will demonstrate the following:

Ability to communicate in an appropriate way with individuals and groups;

bullet

Promotion of professional attitudes and behaviors with patients and colleagues, without lingual, cultural, racial, gender and socioeconomic prejudices;

bullet

Acts in accordance with patient confidentiality principles;

bullet

Demonstrates respect for her colleagues and superiors;

bullet

Awareness of the importance of team work and leadership.
